I made a promise I would blog about my life and my journey to becoming a professional pilot.
Today I am about to talk about one big factor in a pilots life…. Relationships.
Relationships in a pilots life can vary from their relationship with their instructor, to the relationship with their Co-Pilot, to their relationships with their significant others. The last of those being most important. For you guys that are reading this and are about to get into aviation and becoming a pilot, please read on! On our trip to Oshkosh this year, my good flying friend and I had about an hour long talk about relationships and how they affect pilots. After an hour he ended with this:
Quote: “Ian, always remember…… Its your Family, Friends, Relationships that mean most…. Then airplanes.” I was truely taken back, although it is a common sense statement I think all pilots really need to dwell on it for a while. Are you putting your priorities where they deserve to go?
Recently I was broken up with, I didnt loose the girl of my dreams. That one is still out there somewhere! I realized quick enough that when it comes down to it, airplanes mean little in the grand scheme of life. I dont want to start a sob story but all I want you to do tonight is this. Find 10 minutes and sit by yourself in a room, reflect on this question “What would I do if tomorrow she/he was out of my life for good?” If your answer is “I’d give anything for that never to happen”, stop reading this, put the AOPA magazine down, shut off your King Schools Private Pilot videos, and go let them know how deeply you care about them. Take a break from flying, make them the center of your world (even though they should be already) and rekindle what you two had once or still have.
Sometimes, you need a slap in the face (hypothetically) to realize all this, but here I am slapping you right now!
I hope this helped you guys, because writing helps me
Until Next Time,
