Ice Pilots NWT is a Canadian show featuring the brave and adventurous airline Buffalo Airways. Joe McBryan is the owner and founder of Buffalo Airways, his fleet consists of old piston pounders. Including the DC-3, DC-4,the Electra, and the C-46 aircraft. The show portrays the daily life of the airline, while simultaneously battling with weather mainly the frigid conditions. With the cold temperatures comes problems with the aircraft, always causing a constant battle with keeping enough airplanes out on the line.
Just like any airline this place is no different in the sense that seniority is a big deal. But what makes this place unique is that a pilot pulling for a seat in the cockpit starts off on the ramp loading freight and unloading for months or years before they move on up the ladder to flight attendant, and then ultimately the cockpit. With the North West Territory of Canada very secluded from the world, most small villages rely soley on Joe McBryan and his fleet to provide them with their groceries, supplies, and fuel for the month.
With all this intense demand on the pilots and the airway’s ability to supply all these villages it causes for a very energized and fun filled show to watch. I think they need to release the show to the USA, but for now I will stick to buying the seasons DVD’s. With season one in the books already I loved it and with the new season already underway I am sure it wont disappoint.
So for all you pilots in Canada, take advantage of this show and for you pilots in the USA…. well we get Flying Wild Alaska for now.
Until Next Time,
